Sue runs a glass-art business from her home in Guisborough. All pieces are designed and then handmade, to her exacting standards. Due to the unique nature of each piece of glass and the kiln techniques used, no two pieces of artwork are alike. She creates unique, original lampworked (rods of glass manipulated whilst molten, heated by a torch using propane and oxygen as fuel) and kiln formed objects, catering mainly for individual customers. She can cut and fuse together small pieces of glass sometimes incorporating gold and palladian foils, to make anything from earrings and wine bottle stoppers to watches, clocks or buttons for handmade designer clothes and knitwear. Sue can design original glass- art pieces to customers specifications. For example, when incorporating glass with metal findings (ear wires or necklace catches) she will usually use base metal though special customer orders might involve using precious metals, such as gold or silver. She draws inspiration from many sources including books, clothes & landscapes, ethnic designs and patterns as well as exchanging ideas with other glass artists. Pieces can be fitted with gold or silver findings if required and also made longer or shorter for a perfect fit.
